Marvel and Webtoon are teaming up! ETERNALS: THE 500 YEAR WAR is a 7-issue series that launches today on Marvel Unlimited, to tie in with the debut of Eternal the movie on Disney+.
The series will launch on the Webtoon app and website on on January 20.
Webtoon previously made headlines for its team-up with DC for comics that launched directly on the Webtoon platform formatted for mobile phones.
Unlike the DC/Webtoon team up, these Marvel comics will have more of a Marvel style to them, based on the promo art. It’s also being presented in Marvel’s “issue” format rather than the episode format for Webtoonm as part of Marvel’s ongoing “Infinity Comics” line.
However it’s still an interesting team up that shows that Marvel is interested in getting their characters in front of Webtoon’s massive global audience. It’s also a nice tie-in for the movie’s streaming release – Marvel has used digital comics to capture interest from movie releases in the past and they’re going back to this playbook.
Eternals: The 500 Year War is set in various countries and will have creative teams based in those countries. The rotating creative line-up includes writers Dan Abnett, Aki Yanagi, Jongmin Shin, Ju-Yeon Park, David Macho, Rafael Scavone, Yifan Jiang; artists Geoffo, Rickie Yagawa, Do Gyun Kim, Magda Price, Marcio Fiorito; and Gunji. Art will be colored by Matt Milla, Carlos Macias, Fernando Sifuentes, Pete Pantazis, and Felipe Sobreiro.
