Vintage Cube Is Back: December 22–January 12

Vintage Cube is back for a three-week run through January 12. To see the full cube list and the list of card changes, make sure to check out the updated Vintage Cube card list page.

All paid accounts on file as of last week’s downtime have been given a Vintage Point—good for a free entry into the Vintage Cube Draft League during this three-week run.

2021 Season 3 Showcase Qualifiers

Players who earned entry into the Showcase Qualifier will be squaring off for an invitation to the 2021 Season 3 Champions Showcase!

The entry fee for Showcase Qualifiers is a format token that matches the format of the Showcase. As with QPs, after the season’s Showcase Qualifiers are finished, all unused Format Tokens will be removed from players’ accounts.

Each Showcase Qualifier is a scheduled Swiss-style event with a Top 8 playoff. The winner of each Showcase Qualifier earns a spot in the final Showcase event and a chance to earn their share of $70,000 and an upcoming Premier Event invitation.

Pioneer Qualifier Sunday

On Sunday, January 2, there will be a Pioneer Qualifier with a start time of 11 a.m. PT (19:00 UTC). The event costs 40 QPs (Season 1), and the winner will earn an invitation to the Neon Dynasty Championship event on MTG Arena.

Convention Championship – January 1

Did you go 3–0 in any of the Convention Preliminary events held on MTGO for PAX West, Gen Con, Origins, or PAX Unplugged? If so, you have a Wizards Ticket on your account—your ticket to compete in the Convention Championship event on New Year’s Day at 7:00 a.m. Pacific time (15:00 UTC Saturday, January 1)!

The format will be Modern Horizons 2 Sealed Deck with Top 8 Draft. The winner will receive 4 copies of each digital set in Modern, and the Top 8 each walk away with at least 1 copy of each digital set in Modern. There are also booster prizes down to 64th place.

Format Change for MOCS Showcase Opens

We have updated the format for the 2021 Season 3-ending MOCS Showcase Open events on January 8–9. These events will now use Modern Horizons 2 product. The entry option for each event will be 50 Event Tickets or 500 Play Points, and prizes will contain Modern Horizons 2 product. Our event schedule page and 2021 MOCS info page now reflect this change.

Magic Online Format Challenges Every Weekend

Format Challenges are the first step toward qualifying for Premier Play through your favorite Magic formats and provide excellent prizes for those looking to test their mettle in their favorite formats. Learn more about Premier Play qualification to get started today.

Magic Online‘s Format Challenges run once on Saturdays and once on Sundays for each Constructed format! On weekends featuring Showcase Challenge events, the Format Challenge that starts at either 6 a.m., 8 a.m., or 10 a.m. Pacific time is pre-empted by the Showcase Challenge—Format Challenges scheduled at other times remain in place. NOTE: Pauper and Standard Challenges are never pre-empted.

Modern Horizons 2 Returns (Including Preliminaries)

It’s the season for another fan favorite: Modern Horizons 2 Draft! We’re bringing back the non-Phantom Draft League through January 5 with the same prize structure and chance to open a Ragavan, Nimble Pilferer you know and love!

  • Entry Options:
    • 25 Event Tickets
    • 3 Modern Horizons 2 boosters and 4 Event Tickets
    • 250 Play Points
  • Prizes:
    • 3 Wins – 6 Modern Horizons 2 boosters, 2 MOCS Season 3 QPs, and a Competitive Trophy
    • 2 Wins – 2 Modern Horizons 2 boosters

NOTE: Limited Preliminary events will use Modern Horizons 2 product until Wednesday, January 12.

  • Entry Options:
    • 45 Event Tickets
    • 450 Play Points
  • Prizes:
    • 4 Wins – 750 Play Points and 40 QP
    • 3 Wins – 450 Play Points and 20 QP
    • 2 Wins – 150 Play Points and 10 QP

Next Downtime February 9

The next downtime will be Wednesday, February 9, beginning at 9 a.m. and continuing until noon. All times listed are Pacific Standard time (UTC-8). This is for the release of Kamigawa: Neon Dynasty.
